What you'll need to open a Chase bank account

You'll need the following information and documents to open a bank account with Chase:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Email address and phone number
  • Home address
  • Your Social Security number
  • A driver's license or state ID

Chase may also require proof of your address. If so, your options include a utility bill, bank statement, credit card statement, or mortgage document.

How much does it cost to open a Chase bank account?

Monthly service fees for Chase bank accounts range from $0 to $25. Chase waives the monthly service fees for clients who meet certain conditions. The conditions depend on the account you choose, but you generally need to maintain a minimum balance or receive qualifying direct deposits.

Make sure you can meet the requirements to get the service fees waived before opening a Chase bank account. If you can't, you're better off opening a bank account without any monthly fees.

How to open a Chase bank account

When you're ready to open a Chase bank account, here's how to do it online.

1. Choose the Chase bank account you want

Chase has multiple checking accounts and savings accounts to choose from, as well as several CD options. Look for an account that has the features you need and where you'll be able to avoid the monthly service fees.

2. Start the application process

Once you've picked a type of account, you can start the application process. You'll be asked if you're already a Chase customer and, if so, you'll be prompted to log into your account. Chase will then auto-fill some of the required information for you, including your address and contact information.

3. Fill out the application

You'll need to provide your personal information, contact information, Social Security number, and a driver's license or state ID number.

4. Fund your account

After you've completed the application, you'll be able to deposit money to your account. With most Chase bank accounts, you don't need to do this right away, as there's no minimum opening deposit. The exception is with Chase CDs, which have a $1,000 minimum.

5. Start using your new bank account

You can log into your Chase account to view your bank account details, including the account number and routing number. Use this information to set up direct deposit, bill pays, and any other banking services you want to use.
